Well shit, here goes. Recently a friend (I think John from Hillstomp) told me that he can tell how much fun we are having on tour by how often we update our news page. The more fun we have, the less we update. Well, clearly that is true, since we haven't updated in a couple of weeks. The tour with the Rev and The Supersuckers was just fucking amazing; the most fun I've ever had. I could spend all day breaking down each show or whatever, but I'll skip all that bullshit and just say that all those guys are the coolest fuckers you could ever hope to spend two weeks with.

I've been a huge fan of the Reverend Horton Heat for years. In a lot of ways they are responsible for opening my eyes up to a ton of different music that I didn't even know existed. The Rev was the doorway for me into punk rock, rockabilly, psychobilly, roots rock, and especially country, which I never gave the time of day before I heard their take on it. I was naive as a kid and thought the only country music in the world was all that top 40 shit that blows, but hearing the Rev do songs like "Bales of Cocaine," "Crooked Cigarette," "Cowboy Love," "Liquor, Beer, and Wine," and so on showed me that their was a lot of things that could be done with country music that I had never considered. From there it was easy to discover everything from Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson to SCOTS and BR549. It was through the Rev that I also found my way to The Cramps and The Meteors, two of my very favorite bands. To get the chance to play with The Reverand Horton Heat was beyond an honor, it was like completing the circle for me in a way, as without the Rev I probably wouldn't have ever considered playing in a band like Sonofabitch. Big thanks to The Rev, Jimbo, and especially Scott Churilla for making us feel welcome, and thanks to their crew (Bobby and Nick) for all the help they gave to us rookies. We'll never forget it.

Oddly enough, it was also The Rev that introduced me to The Supersuckers, who truly are The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World. Years ago The Rev and The Supersuckers released a split single/EP of "400 Bucks" and "Caliente." Both bands did both songs (that's a great fucking idea by the way), and both bands ruled it. I had bought it for The Rev songs, having never heard The Supersuckers at the time, but as anyone who is a fan knows, The 'suckers grab you right away and don't let go. The great thing about The Supersuckers is that after 17 years together, they are actually BETTER than they have ever been. Most bands that are together that long are at worst washed up and embarrassing, or at best just past their prime, but the 'suckers still have maybe the best live show around, and their songs keep getting better. Having just spent two weeks listening to the new songs "Breaking Honey's Heart" and "I Like It All" I can tell you that this isn't a band that's ever slowing down. I fought to get up front for every damn show, 'cuz you never get tired of watching those guys have the time of their lives playing rock and roll. Watching those guys play is like going to rock school. On top of that, they are the coolest fuckers around. On our night off in Boise, we went bowling with them and their crew and had the time of our lives (they killed us), and the next morning Flap and I went golfing with Eddie Spaghetti and Thunder Bolton (we had the edge there, thanks to Flap). Dan Bolton is the first person I have ever seen legitimately respect the ladies' tee "rule." I had thought that I was an AC/DC fanatic, but here comes Eddie with some unreleased AC/DC songs that I have never even heard of and puts me to shame. Thank God or Bog or Whatever for the insane number of iPods floating around so he could pass that stuff off to me. He does one of the songs on his upcoming second solo record, a Bon Scott masterpiece called "Carry Me Home," and it's one of the best things I have heard in a long time. We also have to give huge thanks to the 'suckers tour manager Wilber for all his help and advice, and for sticking up for us when a certain hometown venue production manager was "putting us in our place." That was cool as shit, and as I like to say, better than we deserve. Also big thanks to their sound guru Dave Fisher for all the help he's given to us, despite our efforts to break his fingers in the door of our van.

Allright, I'll quit sucking off The Supersuckers for now and just say that coming home to regular life after the last two weeks has been quite a drag. It's nice to be home in Portland, but once you get a taste of how great things can be like that, you never want to go back. Best of luck to the Rev and The Supersuckers on the rest of their tour! I don't know if this qualifies as the big tour report that was alluded to, but fuck it. As far as the individual shows go, they were all great, but I would like to single out The House of Blues show in Vancouver BC in particular. Amazing venue, incredible staff, tons of cool as shit Canadians rockin' to three very American bands and loving it. We felt very welcome up there and can't wait to get back!

As of now our schedule is empty for the first time in 3 years, but their will be at least 3 shows posted in the next few days, so keep an eye open for that. In addition, in the next couple of months we are going to be doing some recording for our upcoming live record, and we'll want to get every one of you out to those shows to make them as great as they can be, so we'll keep you posted on when that is going to happen. We'll also have some pics of the tour up as soon as we get them back, and Jon and I are going to be redesigning the web site in the next couple of weeks. We will have a better layout, as well as the addition (finally) of a merch page, so all of you don't have to wait till we come to your town to get some bitchin' Sonofabitch shirts and hats (that's right, we've got hats now!). I know I promise shit like that and it takes forever to make it happen, but keep on bugging us and we'll get it done. We met a ton of great people in the last 6 weeks and we would like to hear from all of you, so shoot us an email any time at band@icanlickanysob.com. Thanks to everyone who came out to the shows and made our tour a success, and thanks for continuing to support what we do. We hope we never let you down. See you all soon!

We made it home safe! It was such a blast opening for the Supersuckers and the Reverend Horton Heat. Mole's working on a huge tour report, so check back for that. We also have some new live footage that we'll post soon.

We are heading down I-5 like banshees, trying to get to our gig in San Francisco by midnight. We left Vegas this morning after our typically insane double down gig, and a torrid blackjack session that kept Mole and I out until 5 a.m. A particularly devastating hand featured the dealer with a 6 showing, and Mole with 9 and a 2. Mole gets dealt a 3, and the dealer pulls 20 out of his ass, sending Mole to the mat for the night. In-And-Out burgers were on me this morning. Thanks again to Mac and Angie for taking us in, feeding us, and listening to our hacking coughs.
The van smells like a hog farm, but I'm getting used to it. We have the day off on Monday, so we might deodorize the van for the last leg.
This tour has been a hell of an experience. The band has never sounded better, and we've seen some great people on the road. If we can keep our health in check, the rev/supersuckers shows are going be a raging good time.
Thanks to Scott at meteor amps in New York for getting my new harp rig built in time for most of the rev/suckers shows.
Take care,
David

Ok, so this is the third time that I am attempting to post this update, because everytime that I have tried to post it before something has happened and I have lost it. So here goes nothing.

Mike already addressed Austin, so I will only mention that we got to meet Gerald Collier, formerly of Best Kissers in the World and now a great singer songwriter on his own. We all got to talk to him for a long while and he´s a great guy to hang out with; tons of great stories.

House of Blues in New Orleans was amazing. We had a great time there and a lot of it had to do with the fantastic staff there, all of whom treated our wretched asses much better than we deserved; we can´t thank them enough. Big thanks go out to Steve and Kim, Reuben, the other Steve, and everyone else there for making us so comfortable. The show was a blast, Robert Earl Keen and his band were cool as hell (Mike was right about our fear of them stealing David, we couldn´t leave at the end of the night ´cuz he wouldn´t get off of their damn bus!).

The night before in Atlanta was great as well; Smith´s Olde Bar is one of the best venues of it´s size in the country. Jimbo and the gang took great care of us, and we can´t wait to get back there. The Neil Diamond tribute was fun as hell, and I edged out Dave´s high score on Galaga, my proudest moment of the tour.

In Memphis we met a cool band from Chicago called The Reputation (coincidentally I ran into the bass player in Austin after our show). Hank is one of the coolest soundguys in the country; he´s been around for a long time and knows his shit about what´s going on with music, and it´s always great to run into people like that who have so much knowledge and experience.

Birmingham was as fun as ever, got to hang out with the Pacific Stereo boys which is always a party. The only bummer about the night was The Forty-Fives van taking a shit on the first night of their tour. It was one of those situations where you really want to be able to help because you know what it´s like to be a touring band in that position, but there wasn´t anything that we could do. Here´s hoping that they got it all worked out and their tour goes well. They had a new drummer playing only his second show with them, but you would never know that he hadn´t been in the band for years.

North Carolina talk has to center around our friend Michael Casey, who hooked us up with some pizza and a shitload of great music that we nabbed from his iPod. It was like a musical gold mine for the iPod nerds in the band (me, Jon, and Dave). Michael has a Livejournal Community that he set up about us that I have mentioned before. There is a link to it on our links page. You should all go check it out. It´s people like Michael that make us want to work even harder to make this shit happen.

Anyway, this has gone from a long delayed update to the mindless ramblings of a windbag, so I´ll end it here. Just a few shows left before home, then off with The Rev and the Supersuckers!!!!

The last couple shows have been awsome. Big thanks to Jim for letting us crash in his basement. We're expecting 1-3 inches of snow in Morgantown tonight. We have new tires, and a lot of weight in the van, so we should be fine.

Chicago kicked ass! We had the pleasure of opening for Two Cow Garage and Slobberbone. It was an honor to play with Slobberbone on their farewell tour. It's sad to see them go. We're all excited to hang out with Two Cow Garage again down in Austin in a couple weeks.
Dave won a dollar off of a cook at the club (pitching quarters.) Thanks to Joel for bringing Dave a new tube for his amp!
